4. Build an Emergency Kit

Keep essentials on hand, including flashlights, batteries, and bottled water, nonperishable food, first-aid supplies, chargers, and important documents.

5. Clean your Gutters

Remove leaves, dirt, and debris so rainwater can flow properly. Clogged gutters can lead to overflowing water and potential damage to your roof or foundation.

6. Check your Drainage

Make sure storm drains and areas around your home are clear. Proper drainage can help keep heavy rainwater away from your home’s foundation.

7. Prepare your HVAC System

Have your heating and cooling system inspected before you need it. Replace air filters and make sure your system is ready for the change in temperatures.

8. Protect your Pipes

Before freezing temperatures arrive, know where your main water shut-off valve is located. Insulate exposed pipes and take precautions to prevent pipes from freezing.

9. Review your Insurance

Take a few minutes top review your homeowners or renters insurance and understand what is covered. If you live in an area at risk for flooding, check whether separate flood insurance is needed.

10. Do a complete Home Walk-Through

Walk around your property and look for anything that needs attention- from small leaks and cracks to loose fences or damaged exterior areas. Taking care of these issues before severe weathers arrives can see you time, money and stress.
